The Effects of a Look

The shame at which you gazed upon me

Struck me, stoned me, owned me

For moments in time so clear, so defined

That it changed the way I saw my

Reflection or the introspection or the perception

That  I was one of the good guys, one

Of the should guys, one of the guys

Who could cry and it could be viewed as sweet how

Vulnerable I allowed myself to be in the

Moment, unlike these moments ahead where -

After that one stern-faced, tight-lipped, heavy-jowled look -

You damned me back into the recesses

Of self-loathing I'd climbed from, covered

In the refuse of adolescent expectations

Definitive of the culture in this spreading

Ripple of time.
